STRETFORD magician Steve Manford of Norwich Road who goes under the stage name of ‘Stevie Mandini’ has just won the John G. Smith Best Card Trick Shield from The Order of The Magi – Manchester’s Magicians’ Society.

He excelled his fellow entrants by convincing the independent judges of his exceptional magical skills and entertainment value of his tricks. Steve – who originally qualified as a plumber – has had an on and off interest in magic since childhood but it was a chance meeting on a building site with a joiner who was also a magician that his interest was rekindled.

He joined the Magi last year in order to learn more from magical lectures and be amongst those with a kindred spirit. In fact he has become a very active member of the Magi over recent months.

In the day he looks after his toddlers and in the evenings he works mainly at corporate events including the Manchester Mirror Ball, Lowry Hotel, Manchester City Stadium and the Hard Rock Café. Although performing close up magic takes a large part of his time Steve is also an experienced children’s entertainer, performing at many private birthday parties and school shows.

His favourite magicians are Penn and Teller and Tommy Cooper for totally different reasons, but seeing their success has made him aim high to present quality entertainment for people to enjoy.
