Marist Seahawks on track with title defence
THE Marist Seahawks rugby side is on track to defend the Fiji Women’s Rugby Union 15s title in the Suva competition.
The Seahawks thrashed Mystics Knights 59-5 at the Marist Brothers High School ground yesterday.
In another match, title contenders Striders beat Eastern Eagles 38-10.
Union president Paulini Tamatasasa said the teams had improved after a few weeks of competition.
She added that the number of women playing the sport was increasing.
“We have played the 15s competition for a few weeks now and the competition has improved a lot,” Tamatasasa said.
“All clubs participating in our competition have a lot of girls playing for them now.
“The numbers have improved and this is a good sign for the sport.”
She said girls in secondary schools had also made their mark in the competition.
Students of Ballentine Memorial School and Suva Grammar School featured prominently for their respective clubs.
