A dance recital starring 147 girls in colorful costumes dancing jazz, ballet, tap dance and hip-hop is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 21 at Will Rogers Memorial Center.

The Bruce Lea Dance Factory recital will include 32 dances. Each dance is two minutes long and each age group of children will perform a set of dances. Guests will receive a program of the show when they come in.

Michelle Noskin, the trainer, said the dancers have been working hard for this recital for 10 months. The girls, some of whom are from the 109, come once a week to practice, Noskin said.

Avery Bell, a 7-year-old, is one of the performers in the upcoming recital. Jazz is Bell’s favorite dance, she said.

“It is really fun and makes me feel happy,” said Bell, who has been training for three years with Noskin at the Bruce Lea Dance Factory.

“It is much easier to train dancers at a young age,” Noskin, a resident of the 109, said. “Older dancers lack the basic skills and commitment young dancers naturally have,” she said.

The recital, which is three hours long with one intermission, is open to the public, Noskin said.
