CASPER, Wyo. – The second go-round of the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper proved to be another good one for the Chadron State College entries on Tuesday.

Senior Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff shared the third fastest time of 6.3 seconds in the goat tying and is now in second place overall in 12.9 seconds.

Junior Shaylee Hance of Circle, Mont., whose time of 6.4 seconds on Monday was good for third in the first go-round, completed her second run in 6.9 seconds and is now tied for fourth in 13.3 seconds.

CSC’s third goat tier, senior Amy Tierney of Oral, S.D., is 12th among the 44 entries with a total time of 13.8 seconds after having a 6.6-second time in the second go-round.

Another CSC cowgirl, junior Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., and her bay gelding Frenchie were wide awake early Tuesday morning. They led off the second go-round of the barrel race in 13.89 seconds.  That proved to be the second fastest time rodeo after all 51 contestants had finished their second runs. The fastest time on Mondaywas 14.10 seconds.

Deichert is now tied for fifth in the barrel racing averages in 28.38 seconds.

The other CSC entry in the barrels, Katie Loughran of Broken Bow, completed her second run in 14.54 seconds and is 29th overall in 29.30 seconds.

At the end of the two go-rounds, Hayden Segelke of Eastern New Mexico has the lead in the goat tying in 12.8 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than Winchell. The barrel racing lead belongs to Taylor Engesser of Gillette College in 28.17 seconds, 21 hundredths of a second faster than Deichert’s total time.

A CSC cowboy, Russell Hipke of Stuart, also is competing at the national finals in the steer wrestling. He finished fourth in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings during the regular season, one spot away from qualifying for the CRNF. But when one of the steer wrestlers who had placed ahead of him was unable to participate, Hipke took his place in Casper.

While Hipke took a no time during his first run on Monday, he flipped his second steer in 5.0 seconds for one of the 10 fastest marks in the second go-round.

All three of the Chadron State goat tiers as well as Deichert in the barrels will help open the third go-round of the rodeo at 7 o’clock tonight (Wednesday).  Loughran will make her third run in the barrels Thursday night and Hipke will be the final steer wrestler during the Friday night performance.

The top 12 contestants in each event after all the marks are calculated at the end of the third go-round will compete in the championship go-round Saturday night.
