Don’t miss the boat for an oar-some event in Milton Keynes
Staff and volunteers from Age UK in Milton Keynes are looking forward to a thrilling day of racing and fundraising at MK Dragon Boat Festival in Willen Lake.
48 teams from local businesses and other organisations are taking part in this oar-some annual event in their Age-U-Kan dragon boat.
This year the paddlers will support the Information, Advice and Advocacy services of Age UK Milton Keynes, which help older people resolve financial, housing, health and care issues and many other concerns.
The crews competing to win the Champions’ trophy include Readsoft UK’s “Sir Osis of the River” and Leica Geosystems Ltd’s “I Leica Paddle”, as well as John Lewis’ “Never Knowingly Underpaddled” and Tesco’s “Every Rower Helps”.
Never mind the World Cup, the real excitement this weekend will be in Milton Keynes. Look out for the flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at 2.45pm, enjoy the funfair rides, stalls, large inflatables and mini golf.
Age UK Milton Keynes’ team of keen novices are in the first heat at 10am and races set off every 15 minutes leading to the final at just after 4.30pm.
Medals and trophies will be presented to the winners at 4.45pm by Age UK Milton Keynes’ Chief Executive Jane Palmer.
Don’t miss the boat as The MK Dragon Boat Festival will be pushing off at 10am on Sunday, June 22 at Willen Lake.
