Thank you to George Wendt and all the wonderful people at OARS for the 2014 annual Mokelumne River Rafting Adventure on Sunday, June 8 to benefit the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. This year’s event raised $3,500.

OARS covers the costs for the event, so all donations directly benefit the mentoring program. The OARS staff and guides are always extremely professional; we were lucky to have guides Iowa, Tanner, Ben and Nacala, and drivers Jas and Clavey, to keep everyone safe and happy all day long.

We would also like to thank the Bureau of Land Manage-ment for granting the special-use permit for the Mokelumne River Rafting Adventure and providing an opportunity for community members to experience this gorgeous river safely with one of the top professional rafting companies in the world.

And, of course, our heartfelt thanks to all of our fun-loving rafters for your support of Calaveras young people!

I am still amazed at how wonderful the talent show was on May 31. Three organizations, Valley Springs Youth, the Volunteer Center of Calaveras County and the Valley Springs Optimist Club, partnered to create a very fun show that benefitted all three organizations and our community as a whole. We proved there is nothing like collaboration to bring out the best in everyone.

One of the best things that came out of the talent show was the children had an opportunity to get on stage and share their talents to benefit their community. This is a deep and important lesson for the children.

We also owe a big thanks to two generous local businesses, the Pizza Factory and Round Table Pizza. They came through for us when promised pizza from another source cancelled at the last minute. That was awesome!

Everyone who came really had a good time and loved the show.

We are very grateful for all the community support and we look forward to doing it again next year.
