6 Ways to Make Yourself Feel Better About Your Smile
By Lizzie Weakley
Your smile is one of your most noticeable assets. It determines whether your appearance is youthful and radiant or not. Feeling confident about your smile is essential to your self image and the energy you give off to others. There are many ways to feel better about your smile if you already don’t feel secure about it. From aesthetic routines to oral hygiene techniques, you can improve your smile or simply feel better about what you already have. Here are six methods you can use to make yourself feel more secure in your smile.
Lip Care
Bringing out the natural tinted color in your lips is an indirect way to make your smile look better. The way to do this is to apply an excess amount of petroleum jelly and vitamin E liquid to your lips before you go to sleep. When you wake up, your lips will feel fleshy, with bits of dead layers waiting to come off. The way to take the dead skin off is to brush your teeth and then pass the brush firmly on your lips in a back and forth motion. The dead layers will rinse off and you will be left with the first supple layer of your lip, along with the rose-like color it is supposed to be. The lines on your lips will be gone too. When you smile, you will perceive it to look better because of the softness and color of your lips. This method is great if you already have clean teeth, but you feel it is crooked or can simply look better.
Stain Removal
You can remove mid stains from your teeth with kitchen products. Baking soda, any toothpaste and pressed strawberries make a great paste for your teeth. The way to apply this paste is to spread it on a piece of plastic or a foil. If you have metal fillings in your mouth, foil is not for you.. It will cause a stinging sensation where your fillings are. You can use saran wrap if you have those type of fillings. After spreading the paste on whatever material you are using, you can place it on your top and bottom row as if it was retainers. Sit with it in your mouth for about 45 minutes for the best results. You will salivate during the process, so you can keep tissue nearby. Plan on a 45 minute interval in which you would not eat or drink anything.
Petroleum Jelly Trick
Petroleum jelly makes your teeth look shinier and porcelain-like. Applying petroleum jelly to your teeth is an instant and temporary solution. It is good for photos, interviews and anything else that is a one-time thing.
Lip Tints or Lip Color
Anyone can use lip tints to get the same effect mentioned in the first section. Tinted or colored lips always brighten the smile if it doesn’t already have any stains. There is an unconventional method of using a bluish tint to get the teeth to look whiter. It is a subtle tint and can’t be seen easily with the naked eye.
Fruit and Vegetable Diet
Citrus fruits contain vitamin C, which helps the body produce collagen and fight off the bacteria that builds plaque. Collagen is essential for healthy gums and the bacteria that lives in the mouth can only survive if it builds plaque around itself. Citrus fruits will combat these issues before they turn into problems that affect the way your teeth looks. Strawberries work twice as good because they have a natural astringent that fights against stains and discoloration. Vegetables like celery also have a teeth whitening effect.
Color Psychology
Colors can change your perception of your own smile. Stay away from neon colors if your teeth color is what you worry about the most. Neon colors will only heighten your perception of how discolored you think your teeth are. Pastel colors and dark colors will make your teeth appear lighter and cleaner.
Smiles are one of the main things that affect person’s perception of another person. According to the Ivory Dental Centre, your smile can either make you more confident or more insecure. These methods will help you feel better about your teeth instantly. One of the first steps to a better self-image is to maintain a healthy and welcoming smile.
