How To Create A Healthier Home Environment For Your Family

If you want to improve family wellness, the first place to start is your home – after all, it’s where you all spend most of your time. Not only will incorporating a little bit of green and simple living into your home benefit the wellbeing of the planet, but you can also see your family’s and your wellness change for the better with just a few simple steps.

Firstly, ‘green water’ may not sound very healthy at all, but it simply means recycling and reusing water in the home. Keep a pitcher around the sink area so you can save extra water from cooking pots and leftover glasses of water than are unfinished. Then take your trusty jug and water your house plants. Not only does this reduce water waste, which is good for the planet, but having plenty of healthy plants means the air in your home will be cleaner too. You can even collect wasted splash water from the shower with a bucket, especially if you let it run and heat up before you get in.

Next, save money and exposure to EMFs by putting your WIFI router on a timer so it shuts off at night. You can also use a timer to make a fun and energy saving game for your kids. Give them the mission of racing through the house and turning off electrical switches or unplugging energy vampires as much is possible before the timer goes off. Whoever wins could get some small reward like choosing what TV programme to watch or having an extra 10 minutes before bedtime. Either way, all your children will benefit from getting involved and learning about energy conservation

Also, as the winter chill is still upon us, invest in some organic cotton or down blankets and spread them on the sofa so you and your family can cuddle up together and keep the heating bill down. You could also try natural remedies, like colloidal silver and calendula and arnica creams to replace your petrochemical medications, and reuse your plastic takeaway containers as organisers for your kids’ toys or gardening supplies. Plastic containers shouldn’t really be used for storing and reheating food, as they can release toxins into your meals, so instead use glass jars and bowls for food storage, which is not only safe but it will last you for ages.

Finally, why don’t you adopt an Asian wellness custom and go shoe-free in your house? With a welcoming sign at the front door, ask everyone that enters your home to remove their shoes at the door and leave them there (weather-permitting) to dramatically reduce the amount of toxins, dirt and chemicals that get dragged into your home environment. Toxins can accumulate over time and contribute to many wellness problems such as asthma, allergies and illnesses, so why not make a few of these changes and see if you can reduce the possibility of that happening?
