Certain Jobs May Cause Asthma: Find Out Which
Asthma is a well known health concern. It’s a chronic inflammatory disorder which tends to affect children more profoundly than adults but is capable of causing great harm to both. There are all sorts of factors which are known to set off asthmatic attacks and scientists are constantly identifying more, what’s less well known is that there are all sorts of things that actually trigger asthma in the first place. It turns out that certain places and certain people are more likely to contract the condition initially than others are. This is a relatively new area of research and as such risk factors are still being identified but the fact is that there’s a lot we come into contact with every day which could raise our chances.
A recent study has been completed which looked into certain types of employment and the contraction of asthma. During the study almost 10,000 people were followed from childhood into adulthood. The scientists looked at all sorts of things regarding these people, including occupation and development of certain medical conditions (including asthma). They found that around 18 occupations showed clear predilections towards the contraction of asthma, with one clear victor in terms of the amount of cases it caused.
Cleaners were found to be as much as five times as likely to get asthma than the general population are. This could be because they come into such contact with cleaning fluids which are often toxic, dust and general debris. The study didn’t specify the why it was more interested in looking for whether there was a correlation between certain jobs and asthma. Farmers, hairdressers and printing workers were also shown to be at risk of developing the condition.
If you do one of these jobs for a living and you’re concerned then don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor about ways to lower and limit the potential of you getting ill. Remember they’re there to help!
