The Glass Ceiling wasn’t as sturdy as it seemed…
The glass ceiling is lying in shards at our feet and it’s about time too. There are more and more women in positions of power throughout the business world and that number is constantly growing. The number of female directors in companies has risen since 2007 and in smaller organisations, with around ten employees, as many as half of all directors are now female.
What this means in term of societies progression is profound. Though now it might be hard to imagine for many people, discrimination in the workplace used to be a massive part of life and for some unfortunate few it still is. This steady progression towards equal standing between men and women in positions of power at work is a fantastic step towards solidifying equality in the years to come.
Sadly the same cannot be said for female dominated industries in which the number of men in positions of power actually diminished. Of course this could simply be because there aren’t as many women as men in those areas. It’s always hard to look at statistics like this and draw direction correlations as sometime and in some years, more ladies may go into a certain kind of work than men or vice versa. Having less men in one kind of work may not be sexist, it might just be that less men wanted to do that job that year.
