The Food Standards Agency Loses The Nutrition Policy

With the new Government changes, the Food Standards Agency has lost its nutrition policy, with rumours previously abound that the FSA would be lost altogether in a bid to build a new approach to public health. The health department has stated that it’s changes will protect the public’s confidence in food safety policies, as well as enforcing a new focus on this subject. These changes are all part of the Government’s bid to be more efficient and bring in new policies within the Government; they hope that it will be possible to create a more streamlined approach to food safety.

The Food Standards Agency, or FSA, is responsible for the labelling policy in the UK as well as providing a wealth of information and advice regarding health, nutrition and food safety. The chairman of the agency stated that the hygiene and safety policies implemented by the FSA are still the main focus, with the interest of the consumer at the heart of everything the agency does.

The food industry has welcomed the decision to allow the Department of Health to take over the role of improving the nation’s health, through re-educating us on nutrition and diet. The hope is that this new switch will result in clearer, more concise information that is engaging but informative. With this new initiative, people can lead healthier lives, live longer and reduce their risk of illness and disease.

The FSA has implemented many fantastic changes to public information, bringing in campaigns such as the traffic light code which is now used as a widespread labelling system. Now, the Department of Health must carry on this responsibility to ensure that food safety and nutrition remain a top priority. Without this dedication to the cause, there is the risk that previous work can slip away and become obsolete.
