Three Things You Need To Know If You’ve Got Arthritis

So you’ve got arthritis. It’s not the end of the world and if you treat yourself right it doesn’t have to change your life and the way you live all that much. Like most chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes etc.) arthritis is better treated using a combination of medications and lifestyle choices, you’re not going to be able to control it quite as easily with just one or the other. It can take a while of suffering from the condition before you finally decide to take steps but this could well be too late. You’re going to need to start taking those steps right now and start thinking about how certain things could be affecting not only yourself but your condition too.

There are three main things to remember when you’re dealing with your arthritis:

  1. Weight
Like a lot of conditions, arthritis is negatively impacted by obesity or being overweight. Though it can indirectly cause additional inflammation the main concern is that the extra strain you put on your joints will exacerbate your arthritis. This extra weight will eventually wear down cartilage and cause pain in a non-arthritic patient and for one who actually suffers from the condition it can massively impact your condition and make it harder to handle.
There’s also a lot of evidence which suggests that obesity can actually cause rheumatoid arthritis in certain patients! Best to avoid where you can.
  2. Foods to avoid
Nothing has a more profound effect on us than what we eat and just like in patients with allergies, you should know which food will make your condition worse. Arthritis is an inflammatory condition and as such foods which can have an inflammatory reaction with our bodies should be avoided at all cost. You’re going to want to remove as many fats as you can from your diet, generally fried foods should be on your avoid list. Processed food in general should be avoided and this includes sugars!
  3. Food to Buy
A lot of foods are actually remarkably good for your condition. There are all sorts of anti-inflammatory foods and drinks which would have a very positive reaction with your condition and your body. Omega 3 fats which are generally found in fish are fantastic for you, also green tea and olive oil!
