Type Two Diabetes Becomes The Hidden Killer
Type two diabetes is an epidemic which is sweeping the globe. It’s not contagious in the slightest and you can’t catch it from close proximity to animals, so where does it come from? Type two diabetes generally comes hand in hand with obesity and it’s now said that ¾ type two diabetics are also obese. Obviously this doesn’t account for all diabetics but it certainly explains the explosion in numbers over the last decade or so.
Both type one and type two diabetes are potentially deadly conditions which degrade the body slowly, damaging it at the very smallest of levels which are often very difficult to detect. In type one diabetics this is generally less of a concern because from a young age they’ll have been taught how to treat and manage their condition. However, type two diabetics are diagnosed much later and it’s more than possible for them to be unaware that they’re ill until the damage is already well under way, if not done already.
This has led to type two diabetes’ latest nickname, the silent killer. It’s thought that in the USA alone as many as one in four people could be suffering from type two diabetes or pre-diabetes. Catching pre-diabetes before it grows up and becomes the disease-proper can prevent the patient from suffering from the condition at all. The issue is knowing when pre-diabetes is in effect and then taking the action to stop it.
Studies have shown that intensive weight-loss programs involving special diet and exercise will help to eliminate the potential to contract diabetes in more than half of cases. The issue is finding the time and personal to enact this program. Health professionals and researchers are currently developing an online course with DVD and over-the-phone consultations which should have the same effect as the program has had in the past. Time will tell if it actually works or not!
