Protect Your Children This Summer

As a condition, asthma is much more common in children than it is in adults. This is likely because, as a rule, children are at a much higher risk of allergenic stimuli than adults. They’re smaller and as such the things in the environment will have a much more potent effect on them, they’ll also have weaker immune systems which again will leave them more exposed to the effects of asthma. A good proportion of asthma sufferers will grow out of their disease and won’t have to suffer from it at all by the time they become adults. That’s not to say that all will and though it’s less common, there are adult asthmatics too!

As a parent you’re almost 100% responsible for your child in every aspect of their lives. It’s your job to feed them, to clothe them and to educate them. It’s up to you to make sure they grow up with the right values and you’re to blame whether they grow up as modern day saints or a new generation of hooligans. When it comes to asthma, you can teach your kids a great deal but at the end of the day the responsibility is yours. It’s a big responsibility too, if you get it wrong your child’s life could well be at risk. Asthma kills if improperly managed or if not planned for. The better prepared you are, the better prepared your kids will be and the more likely they’ll take no damage from this nasty disease.

The summer months are the most dangerous for kids with asthma. There are more allergens about at this time of year and as such there are more things knocking about which have the potential to set off an asthma attack. Making sure your kids are equipped with their inhaler at all times and that they know what to do with it when the times comes is really important. It might be best to avoid letting them out on days where the pollen count is at its highest. But, this might not really be an option. Kids are kids after all.
