Things To Avoid To Keep Healthy Bones
There are a wide variety of conditions which do us more damage as we get older. They’re not relegated to old age and most can affect you no matter how old you happen to be. Osteoporosis is one of these. It’s a condition which weakens your bones to the point where they become brittle and easily fractured. At this point you become much more fragile and any bump or scrape could leave you with a broken bone or a fracture. Those breaks then take much longer to heal because of the condition itself and create a rather vicious cycle.
It’s well known that calcium supplements can be useful in keeping your bones healthy and your life free of osteoporosis. Consuming more dairy can also lessen your chances and keep your wellness nice and high for much longer. What is much less known are the factors which can put you at risk of the condition in the first place. As such we’ve put together a short list of things to avoid if you want to stay osteoporosis free into your old age!
- Don’t have too much protein. Lots of meat can lead to an increased likelihood for osteoporosis.
- Stress is damaging to our emotional wellbeing and our heart health but did you know that after a long period of prolonged stress you could start to damage your bones too?
- Too much caffeine and sugary drinks can increase your chances of contracting osteoporosis and should be cut to maintain healthy bones.
- Too much salt
- Deficiency in calcium and vitamin D. The vitamin is necessary for the absorption of calcium by the body and as such it should be taken with any calcium supplements. You can be drinking a cows worth of milk a day and get no benefit from it at all without vitamin D.
- Too little in way of stomach acid, meaning your food doesn’t get broken down well enough and as such you don’t get all the nutrients you need to survive.
