Diabetes can be controlled easily – here’s how!
Diabetes is a lifestyle condition which is swiftly becoming an epidemic in countries such as America – millions of people deal with this condition every day, with many more with prediabetes. Those with prediabetes often don’t have symptoms in the early stages, so they don’t know that they have the condition. The symptoms generally develop gradually, and are noticeable by frequent urination, feelings of extreme hunger, feeling thirsty more than usual and unexplainable weight loss. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes also include frequent infections, blurred vision, bruises which take longer than usual to heal and a feeling of numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Doctors urge that you seek medical advice if you have these symptoms, as you may need to have tests to determine if you are diabetic.
GO! Strong is a programme which was created by the city of Savannah, in collaboration with Quantam Health, for the city’s employee who are fighting diabetes. The programme helps those with the disease to manage their condition through maintaining a healthy weight, getting plenty of exercise and eating a balanced diet, as well as ensuring that they are taking the appropriate medication. They’re also on hand to advise where possible on ways in which managing diabetes can be made a little easier. They do this through registered dieticians, personal trainers and medical professionals.
Diabetes is a progressive disease, so you’ll never be entirely free of it. This means that checking your blood sugar levels and your carbohydrate intake will always be a part of your life, as will making sure you do enough exercise. However, these aspects of your lifestyle will help you to manage your condition more effectively. If you’re diagnosed with diabetes, or think you may have symptoms, it’s advised that you seek medical advice so that you can get the right medication for your level of disease. Experts also recommend that you visit your GP once a year following on from that to keep a control on your condition.
