Have You Tried Rebounding For Fitness?

Although Rebounding has been around for years, it’s enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Here are some of the benefits of this low-impact, weight-bearing exercise which can help you achieved optimal health and fitness in the comfort of your own home:

What is it?

Rebounding is performed on a small, circular trampoline designed to give extra spring and to absorb impact. Sessions typically last 20 – 45 minutes and can be tailored to focus on cardio, strength and core, or sports specific routines. The idea is to concentrate on the downward push into the mat, with your knees bent and hips pulled back, then a small jump off the mat, not more than 6 inches. This creates gravitational pull, which is at the heart of what makes Rebounding work. At the bottom of the bounce (‘push’) your exercise body weight can be up to 3.24 times heavier than normal while at the top (‘jump’) you are weightless. This constant change in gravitational pressure works every single cell in your body, including internal organs, muscles and skin, making Rebounding the most effective all-over body workout, ever.

What will it do for me?

There’s lots of scientific research that proves the benefit of exercising on a Rebounder. It burns 100s of calories each workout, detoxifies the body, improves posture, strengthens the core and tones the body including internal organs, muscles and skin.

Detoxify – Toxins are stored in fat cells and the body is reluctant to burn fat while these toxins are present. Rebounding is detoxifying as it simultaneously combines physical exertion with gravitational pull. The ‘push’ motion forces your lymphatic valves to open, the ‘jump’ motion closes these valves at the top of the jump. This creates a pump effect, which effectively moves and recycles the lymph and blood supply through the circulatory systems many times during the course of a rebounding session; it’s this free-flowing system that promotes the drainage of toxins.

Lose Weight quickly – By Rebounding for just 30 minutes a day you could lose a stone in 3 – 4 weeks. Consider when you are running on a treadmill and it asks for your weight to determine how many calories you’ve burned. If you put in that you are heavier than you actually are, it will show a significantly higher calorie burn. Rebounding achieves this higher calorie burn due to the effect of gravitational pull. Your exercising body weight is 3.24 times higher than during normal exercise, which causes your body to burn calories more quickly.

Strengthen Core – Working on an unstable surface provides a constant balance challenge, leading to strengthening of the core muscles, improved posture and strengthening of your joint stabilisers, which minimises the risk of injury.

Change Body Shape – Rebounding will change your body shape as it tones and tightens muscles and skin. Due to the effect of gravitational pull, every single cell is worked including internal organs, muscles and skin, leading to benefits such as increase in muscular strength and tone, strengthening pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles, and toning and tightening of your skin. Since the cells are the body’s living building blocks, any positive change to the cells cascades up to the tissues, organs and systemic functions giving increased overall health and wellbeing.

Exercise for All – It’s fun and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. You are in control of how hard you ‘push’ and can increase your fitness level gradually. Moves such as squats, lunges, presses and sprints are performed between bursts of jogging and bouncing, all on a low-impact surface. If you really want to feel the burn you can do plyometric exercises such as thigh-slapping, squat jumps or add resistance by using sand weights and resistance bands.
