Figs Are Good…

Figs appear in the earliest recorded history with mentions in the Bible and other ancient writings. They were a staple food of both the rich and poor, providing energy and the highest mineral content of all common fruits. Cleopatra even ended her life with an asp brought to her in a basket of figs. Fig puddings and tarts were also popular in medieval times. Figs are excellent source minerals such as calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc, copper, iron and selenium. Fresh fig fruits are low in calories with 100gm fresh fruits providing only about 75 calories. They are rich in dietary fibre and minerals and have lower fat levels than most other fruits. However, dried figs are very high in calories, nearly four times that of fresh figs, and are good for those who need to put on weight.
