Are You a Food Lover or a Weight Watcher?
Joining an established diet plan has been proven to increase your chances of effective weight loss. Attending group meetings, or just knowing someone else is following the same plan you are, can do wonders for your mental wellbeing during this difficult time. However, how do you know which programme to choose? I mean, aren’t they all the same?
The Weight Watchers diet programme, currently known as Points Plus, and The Food Lovers Fat Loss System both claim to be able to guide you to wellness through sensible weight loss, but how do they stack up against each other? The plans are similar in many ways, but they do have some significant differences.
Firstly, when it comes to what to eat, the Food Lovers programme claims to have the efficient formula to kick-start your body’s fat-burning process, which boils down to balanced servings of lean meats, vegetables and quick-burning carbohydrates. Weight Watchers; however, recommends a balanced diet of all foods. This includes vegetables of all colours, lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats.
How much you eat is also different in each programme. If you’re a Food Lovers member, you are encouraged to eat healthy snacks throughout the day in addition to small meals, and are taught to eat certain foods in combination. Weight Watchers does it by assigning every food a point value, and you’re allowed a certain number of points to eat every day. You can eat whatever you like within the points limit.
So what are the costs and perks? For an initial sign up fee, plus a fee per meeting, Weight Watchers gives you access to all the programme information, menu planning and point guides, plus meetings and access to a live leader to act as an advisor during your weight loss journey. The Food Lovers programme asks for a one-time fee, though you can pay it in monthly instalments, and this will get you a box containing all the program materials including meal planning guides, menus and advice booklets, plus a workout DVD.
To sum up, Weight Watchers gives weight loss the personal touch, with face-to-face meetings every week. Food Lovers, on the other hand, provides you with the independence to follow guidelines to weight loss success. However, both programmes claim that members can eat any foods they want and still lose weight. Though this is technically true, you will be required by both programmes to fit these foods into your diet by giving up other foods on the daily menu.
