Yoga – the Mind and Body Connection

Yoga is one of the most important practices for general wellbeing.  You increase your flexibility, improve your circulation, invigorate your organs and create heat in your body, which is said to burn-off toxins. Furthermore, developing awareness of your own body, and the feeling of ‘being in the moment’ will greatly enhance your sense of awareness.  This will enable you to lead a more connected life.

Most of us go about our busy lives without even being aware of our breathing. We are trapped in our thoughts and disconnected from our very selves! Yoga improves this by making you aware of your breath, which can quite often give you a sense of release, and even a feeling of real bliss. Your breath is the connection between your body and mind; once you become aware of this you can control your breath, which in turn controls your state of mind.

Additionally, going into specific yoga poses with complete awareness of the parts of your body you are exercising builds a great connection between your body and mind. This helps to you to attune your mind to messages from your body.  When you are fully aware of what your body is telling you, you will experience a sense of groundedness by being fully inside the vehicle that carries you!

The most important benefit of full body awareness is that your thought processes slow down.  Incessant mind-chatter or anxiety takes us away from enjoying the moment.  Worrying is a major source of stress. If you are worrying about the future, regretting the past and ignoring the moment how can you expect to have a good level of wellness? Yoga takes away all of that stress and leaves you feeling completely balanced in body and mind. This is why it is one of the best complementary therapies available.
