A health promotion campaign to highlight issues surrounding young men’s health is being run in Tayside this summer.

Organised by the Corner Young People’s Health and Information service the campaign is to be run throughout the area in July and August.

A spokesman for NHS Tayside said the campaign aimed to reach out to young men and address issues relevant to them such as mental health, lifestyle choices, sexual health, relationships, diet and exercise.

She said that interactive activities which focussed on the campaign’s key themes were on offer in a bid to empower young men with knowledge of health and other services available to them.

“Historically men and in particular young men, access health services less often than women. Therefore throughout the campaign a registered nurse and a Corner staff member will be visiting community groups to talk with young men and provide an opportunity for a men only Tayside health check.”

She said that staff and volunteer arts workers have created a window display and resources to be used in both the drop-in and outreach work which aim to encourage young men to engage with the campaign.

During the campaign there will also be daily updates for young men on the Corner’s Twitter page.

The Corner offers a wide range of health information and peer led services to young people aged between 11-25. The spokesman said it provided a safe, welcoming environment where young people could talk confidentially about various issues.

The service also provides health and emotional wellbeing support and a range of sexual health services to young people.
