Can You Treat Arthritis With Far Infrared Saunas?

There are many different forms of arthritis and it is one of the most common diseases in the world. Generally, all the forms involve damaged cartilage and inflamed fluids in the joints. This leads to tissue not working correctly, and then discomfort followed in some cases by quite severe pain. There’s no doubt that it is a major health problem worldwide.

We’re not too sure exactly what cause’s arthritis, but there are a number of treatments available. These can range from drugs and chemicals, to physical therapy, to changes in the diet that help the body combat the disease. Unfortunately, none of these treatments help to repair the damaged tissues or allow joint function to return to normal.

It is possible, however, to repair some of the damaged tissue by using a far infrared sauna. The sauna emits rays which heat up the body. The reason this could help with arthritis is that tissue in the human body is made up proteins called polymers. Polymers can be treated with heat to remove defects, and this allows them to function more correctly. While arthritis breaks down and damages the tissue in the cartilage of joints, the heat therapy can reverse this process.

It’s important to use a sauna because this type of heat penetrates the skin and works inside the joints. If you tried to use heat packs they would be ineffective as they only heat the outer layer of the skin and would not be of any use to the damaged tissue in the cartilage. Short sessions in the sauna should be followed up with a fairly long cool-down period. This period is essential, so it is important that you don’t have a cold shower, or go anywhere too cold.

The heat helps the polymers to repair themselves, and this will not only allow the joints to work correctly, it will also reduce pain and inflammation. Saunas also have the added benefit of being relaxing, which could help you deal with the stress of the condition.
