Sexual Health Advice: Where can you get it?

If you’re sexually active, there are sometimes questions and concerns you may have that you need answers to – but where can you go where you can get un-biased and helpful advice, without worrying about your problems being broadcast to everyone you know? There are a variety of sources you can turn to in times of need, from family and friends to medical professionals, all of whom can help answer your questions. The more you know about sex, relationships and infections, the more confident you will feel both dealing with it and asking for help in the future.

All of the advice you will receive from the NHS will be confidential and accurate, so you can ensure the best information to help you answer your queries. Whether you want to speak about contraceptive devices, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases or STI’s, or how to have safer sex, you can speak in a confidential space. Your GP or nurse, health visitors, a local sexual health clinic or pharmacies are all great sources for this information or any treatments you may need. If you are under 25 years old, you can also go to a young person’s advice centre, such as the Connexions centre. Services such as Brook or the Family Planning Association are also brilliant sources of information, no matter what your concern.

There are online services available which can be brilliant outlets for information and advice, and you may find counseling services such as the Lesbian and Gay Switchboard useful if you are looking for advice about your sexuality. Whatever your sexually-related concern may be, there is a service available to you which can help you deal with your problem in a safe and effective way, as well as helping you to educate yourself on matters relating to sex and sexual health.
