Obesity And The Long And Painful Road

The major health concern in the world today, the major cause of the rise in certain diseases and chronic conditions is, you’ve guessed it, obesity and becoming overweight. I cannot overstate how much damage getting and then staying obese will cause you, there’s not a single part of your life it won’t damage and not a single thing that’ll get easier because of it. Regardless of it being viewed as a disability and some people claiming that they’ve got no power over their eating there are always steps which can be taken and this is proven by the many thousands who have taken then, lost the weight and then gone on to live long and healthy lives.

As I say, obesity is no joke. Being a little fat isn’t going to kill you, putting on a couple of pounds over xmas and then struggling to shrug them off is fine and normal. It’s when you pile on that weight and it doesn’t shift for years and years that you’re going to have issues. First, it’s going to make anything you may have already had so much worse sometimes in ways you’d never imagine. Asthma’s a prime example of this, being overweight affects your production and the effectiveness of hormones called leptins. These regulate the width of airways and without them functioning properly you’ll have more issues with your asthma. Second, obesity brings about many of its own conditions. Heart disease and type two diabetes are prime examples here. Though being obese isn’t the only cause of these two conditions it’s one of the biggest and best known factors involved.

Obesity has never been such an issue. Here are some rather shocking statistics to illustrate that fact:

–                     More people 20 and over are obese than normal/underweight. 34.6% are obese and 31.8% are normal or underweight. 68.2% of this whole population are overweight or obese in the USA today.

–                     Kids are more obese than ever with a staggering 31.8% obese or overweight in the USA

–                     One third of adults report no exercise or very slight exercise in their day to day lives.

–                     Over 1/10 of adults in the USA have chronically high cholesterol.
