Spices: The Delicious Defence Against Asthma
Dealing with asthma can be very difficult. Many people suffer reactions to certain triggers, and no matter how careful you are, sometimes you can come into contact with these triggers and it can set off the symptoms of asthma. While medications can help in relieving the conditions once they have started sometimes there is very little that medicine can do to prevent it happening in the first place.
Interestingly, however, your diet can actually play a major role in your asthma. Many modern foods have additives and colourings that can trigger your symptoms or even an attack. It’s no surprise that these types of food should be avoided not just to relieve asthma, but also for your general wellbeing. But not all foods are bad for the condition.
Spices have been used by many alternative medicines in Eastern countries for thousands of years. Spices are considered super-foods as they are rich in immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This means that consuming them can be hugely beneficial for anyone who suffers from asthma.
Asthma is what’s called an auto-immune disease, meaning that any improvements to the body’s immune system come in very useful when you are trying to fight off the condition. A strong immune system should be better equipped to deal with allergens and germs which could otherwise cause problems for your health and your asthma.
When you have an asthma attack, your airways become inflamed making it difficult for you to breathe. Spices are a brilliant natural anti-inflammatory, so eating plenty of them should help open your stop your airways from ever becoming too narrow and have an attack. Spices are also high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are the body’s main line of defence and can stop damage from free radicals in your system.
