Employee Wellness Programs Are Saving Companies Money
In the USA and other countries where healthcare isn’t free, it’s common for employers to offer health insurance to employees and their families. In times past, this was a great perk of the job and the companies with the better health insurance would attract many more applicants for their jobs.
In the current economic climate however, healthcare costs are on the rise. People’s health and wellness in general are getting worse and there are more and more chronic conditions which require constant treatment which, of course, costs recurring amounts of money. For this reason a lot of the larger companies are looking at employee wellness programs meant to encourage and improve their worker’s wellbeing and lessen the overall expenditure on healthcare for the whole company! The main reasons for the steady growth of employee wellness programs are:
Lessened healthcare costs – By helping employee’s adopt healthier ways of life employers are trying to lessen the amount they need to visit the hospital. This will lower costs across the company and as we all know, corporations love nothing more than saving money!
Fewer Sick Days – If employees are better generally, they’ll need less time off for sick days and thereby be much more efficient simply by being in work much more often.
Healthy workers are productive workers! – There’s a strong correlation between employee wellness and how productive they are.
Employee Loyalty – We all like to feel important and looked after and if a company takes time to make sure its employees are okay and spends money on their wellness then those employees are going to feel much more loyal towards their company!
Less Sickness in the office – Known as presenteeism, this is where people come into work when they’re ill. They’re determined to keep working but in fact they infect others and lower moral in the workplace over all!
