Which Celebrities Didn’t Let Asthma Stop Their Success?

Asthma can certainly take its toll on your wellness, and sometimes you can feel like you’re missing out when everyone else is joining in. Asthma not only runs you down physically, but it can also have an affect on your emotional wellbeing, making you think you’re alone and incapable of achieving the things you want in life. However, you are certainly not alone in this, and even several of today’s stars have had to deal with the condition.

Firstly, Jessica Alba, the 31-year-old actress and star of The Fantastic Four and Sin City, greatly suffered with asthma when she was young: ‘I was in hospital a lot from the ages of four to 12. If I ran outside, I had to have a breathing machine and be hooked up to oxygen. I also had to take steroids,’ she says. The starlet also suffered twice with a collapsed lung, but now she is on the silver screen and a mother of two daughters, Honor, aged four, and Haven, two.

Big-time star of Hollywood Sharon Stone is also no stranger to wellness problems. The 54-year-old actress has lived with asthma since childhood, as well as having to cope with the agony of a brain haemorrhage and three miscarriages. Nonetheless, Sharon Stone has never been held back from a successful film career.

It’s not just actresses that have managed to find fame and fortune in spite of asthma, but sports stars too. Until he was photographed using his inhaler, footballer David Beckham, aged 37, was private about his asthma for a long time. However, after this incident occurred, Beckham found that he was actually happy that the news of his condition had got out. He said that he hoped that the news would encourage other asthmatics to play sport.

Finally, 35-year-old rugby player Ronan O’Gara has suffered with asthma since he was a child and according to O’Gara, ‘Asthma has always been an issue, especially growing up, from six to 12, it was a big part of my life.’ However, alongside Jessica Alba, Sharon Stone, David Beckham, and other celebrities and success stories like them, Ronan O’Gara’s career highlights the fact that once you have your asthma under controlled, you can achieve anything you want.
