Stress Not Quite As Damaging As First Thought!

Stress is a defining factor of life today. Most of you will have experienced it through your lives in one way or another. It’s something which has permeated through society from jobs and into schools and a bit of stress isn’t an unhealthy thing. It can motivate you to work harder and get things done and it can be a fantastic way to teach yourself to be more efficient with your time. The issue comes when you start to suffer from excessive amounts of stress; it’s been shown time and again that lots of stress only leads to damage.

The two main conditions which are associated with stress are heart disease and depression. Being constantly stressed will raise your blood pressure which means your heart will have to work harder, over a long period of time this will damage the heart and bring about heart disease. Feeling like you’ve never got time for yourself or that no matter how hard you work you’re never going to finish, can bring about powerful depression.

For a long time it was thought that cancer could be linked to stress too and that heightened levels would actually increase your chances of contracting the disease. There were even several studies which agreed with this point. Luckily for those of you who work high-stress jobs or live high-stress lives, this has been largely disproven.

In a recent study it was shown that colorectal, lung, breast and prostate cancers weren’t linked to stress. Though these aren’t all the cancers by any stretch of the imagination they’re some of the most common and most dangerous. It’s reassuring to find that they’re not linked to stress and a whole host of frazzled individuals across the globe can breathe a combined sigh of relief. Stress is still bad for you but at least it’s not going to kill you that way!
