Osteoarthritis Is No Joke But It’s Not The End Of The World

Osteoarthritis is a condition which affects a lot of people all over the world. It’s one of the most common conditions worldwide and is responsible for the chronic pain, loss of mobility and deformity of thousands upon thousands of people every year. It’s a chronic condition which is never going to go away but, like most other chronic conditions it can be managed and the symptoms never have to grow to the point where you lose any of your mobility.

There have been several studies into osteoarthritis recently and it’s been shown that ladies are at much more of a risk from this condition than men are. This is largely down to oestrogen, the female hormone protects women from all sorts of conditions but after menopause the levels drop and ladies are left exposed to those same conditions.

It’s now said that as many as two thirds of all women over the age of fifty suffer from some kind of knee pain that comes and goes. It’s thought that osteoarthritis is responsible for the vast majority of these cases and it’s not a condition to simply ignore because it’s intermittent.
As with all forms of arthritis there are a lot of treatments available to you as a patient. A huge range of potent drugs will help to manage your symptoms but if you want to do everything you can to maintain your wellness then you’ll have to take some things into your own hands. There are two alternative therapies which, when done alongside the prescribed medicine can be incredibly beneficial.

Light exercise, such as water aerobics will help keep mobility in your knees and if you continue to exercise gently you’ll find the pain will start to diminish too. As arthritis is often caused by an inflammatory reaction in the joints, removing any inflammatory foods from your diet and adding a whole host of anti-inflammatory ones is going to help ease your symptoms.
