Most experts agree that we need omega-3 fatty acids in our bodies to maintain a healthy lifestyle and ensure our wellbeing. But the body can’t make these acids on its own meaning that we have to get our supply from the food that we eat. Fortunately there are a number of sources of omega-3 fatty acid in your diet.
The acid is present in fish like tuna, salmon and halibut, and also in other seafood like algae. Of course this means that fish and seafood is important if we want to get high enough levels of the acid in our bodies. But what happens if you don’t like seafood or are allergic to it? Well, then you have the option of supplements.
Omega-3 supplements have become very popular in recent years as they offer all the benefits for your body but can be taken in one simple pill every day. Unfortunately, however, science is only just coming to terms with supplements and increasingly we are seeing poor results from clinical studies on the effectiveness of these tablets. The answer comes from Kansas State University: eat some ground beef. Now, standard ground beef doesn’t contain any omega-3 fatty acid, but a university professor has developed a technique that enriches the beef with the acid. It is hoped that this enriched beef will soon become commercially available.
It has been noted that omega-3 levels are still quite low in many people, and this may be because of the lack of popularity of fish. Now that a method has been found to provide omega-3 through beef it should counteract the problem and allow many people to receive ideal levels.
