Saturday Night Fever: Study Shows Sex is Best at Weekend
If you were hoping to have some mid-week romantic time with your partner, you’re going to be disappointed. According to a new study, it is statistically less likely that you’ll be having sex on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, whereas Saturday evenings, specifically at around 11pm, are considered the perfect time to enjoy a little romp under the covers.
Conducted by Lovehoney, Britains’ largest retailer of sex toys, the survey of 1654 people found that Saturday was the “sexiest day”, with 37% calling it their favourite day to have sex. Friday came in second place with 23% of the votes, whilst 16% of respondents reported Sunday as their preferred day to get intimate with their partner – a day of rest indeed! However, those mid-week blues don’t just get a hold of your emotional wellbeing, but your sexual health can suffer too. Only 6% of participants said they considering sex on a Monday worthwhile, and a dismal 4% would go for a tumble on a Tuesday.
The survey also looked at other aspects of sexual wellness and preferences, such as the “lights on or off” debate. According to the results, 88% of men are more ready to keep the lights on, compared to a still high 66% of women who said that they enjoyed seeing their partner’s faces and bodies during sex. However, a third of women reported preferring sex with the lights off, but 19% said it wasn’t because of a lack of self-confidence or poor body image, but rather because doing it in the dark makes for a more intimate experience.
When it came to getting things going in the bedroom, 23% of respondents said that a sensual kiss or gentle caress usually ignited proceedings, whilst 14% of those surveyed only needed to jump into bed to get their pulses racing. For 12%, a flirty look hinting at the naughty things to come did the trick, but just talking about sex put the wheels in motion for 7%. The majority noted that they didn’t need a romantic evening to set the mood, but that sex would happen after 33% of respondents had just gone to bed, or while 30% were watching TV. There must be something good on Saturday night telly after all!
