Fatal Attraction

You’re in a loving relationship. Everything is going well and then, suddenly, you find yourself attracted to someone else. You don’t want to cheat on your partner or jeopardise your relationship but you can’t stop thinking about this other person. What can you do to ensure that your attraction for another doesn’t ruin your current relationship?

Keep your distance

If you’ve found yourself thinking romantic thoughts about someone else, try and keep away from them as much as possible. And make sure you don’t obsessively stalk them on social media. Instead, block their updates to make it easier to ignore them.

Focus on their bad points

When attracted to someone new, it’s easy to only see the positive sides to their personality. So, if they keep entering your mind, try to identify their bad points too.

Fall back in love with your partner

Rather than giving headspace to someone new, think about all the things you really love about your partner. Remember what attracted you to them in the first place and remind yourself of all their great qualities.

Identify why you are tempted

If you regularly find yourself attracted to other people, ask whether there is an underlying reason why. Is there a problem in your current relationship that needs addressing? Or has your day-to-day life become predictable and uninspiring, leading you to search for excitement elsewhere?

Know when to move on

If you’re finding it hard to think positively about your current relationship, being attracted to someone else could be a sign that your relationship isn’t going to last. Perhaps it’s time to call it a day – remember it’s always easier to end your current relationship before embarking on a new one.
