How to Avoid the Common Health Mistakes that Every Man Makes
For some reason, there are certain wellness principles that men struggle with. As a man, you’re more likely to avoid the doctor’s office and eat a bad diet, and, in short, put your wellbeing at risk to a myriad of health concerns. Let’s take a look at some of the things you’re doing that you need to change if you want to be around for a long time.
1. Avoiding the doctor
It’s easy to brush off unusual symptoms or problems, and they may all come to nothing, but it’s ALWAYS recommended that you get yourself checked out. It’s better to know that to ignore it and, if there is a problem, you have the chance to catch it early.
2. Ignoring medical advice
If you do manage to go to the doctor’s office, you have to do as your told. There’s a reason why you can’t just type your symptoms into a vending machine for prescription medications; there are certain instructions you need to follow and combinations you need to avoid which only your doctor will be able to tell you.
3. Smoking
Not only does smoking increase your risk of heart disease, cancer, and stroke, but it also ups your risk of impotence. Even the odd cigarette here and there and second hand smoke can have the same effects as chain smoking, so just avoid temptation.
4. Having a bad diet
If you eat lots of fat, salt and sugar, you can develop diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. In turn, these conditions raise your risk for a heart attack, heart disease and even Alzheimer’s.
5. Ignoring chronic stress
Although everyone has stress in their lives, ignoring it doesn’t make you more of a man. Persistent or chronic stress can be harmful to your health as well as your relationships. It elevates your levels of the stress hormones cortisol and epinephrine, and can even increase your blood pressure and tax your heart muscles.
6. Heavy drinking
The odd drink is potentially beneficial for your heart health, but more than two glasses of wine a day is detrimental to your health – in every organ in your body.
