How to Detoxify and Get Healthy After Diwali

Diwali is a major celebration for Hindus. Known as the festival of lights it brings together families and communities who take part in celebrations across the world. It is a very joyous occasion that is used to celebrate the victory of good over evil. Fireworks and firecrackers are often used in the celebration and everyone has a great time. Indeed one of the major parts of the Diwali festival is giving and eating sweet treats and delicious fried savoury snacks. The food is a focal point of the tradition and many people who take part tend to overindulge.

So if you’ll be taking part in the Diwali celebrations this years, does that mean you’ll need to detoxify afterwards? Well, of course it is common sense that if you eat a lot of food (especially food that is packed with calories from fat and sugar) you may need to be a little more careful with your eating habits afterwards. This will neutralise any problems that you might have encountered from overeating the (admittedly delicious) unhealthy food that is such an important aspect of the celebration of Diwali.

So how do you detoxify after eating lots of the fried food and sweet treats that are traditionally enjoyed over Diwali? There are actually lots of different things you can do if you want to get rid of the toxins clogging up your body after a heavy Diwali eating session. If you think that you can get away with not detoxifying, think about how you might feel if you’d had a heavy night of drinking alcohol – you wouldn’t try to drink more the next day! No, it is very important to detoxify after this unhealthy celebration otherwise it can do lasting damage to your body for a long period of time.

The first thing that you need to do (and it might sound a bit obvious, but it’s true) is to stop eating any sweets or fried goods. Once you’ve stopped ingesting these into your body you will be able to get over the unhealthy effects much more quickly. If you continue to eat them, but only a few, thinking this is acceptable, you’ll actually continue to clog up your body and cause problems for a far longer period of time.

So now that you have stopped eating the foods that have been causing the problems you will be in a good place to repair some of the damage that those foods have being creating. One great tip is that you should reduce the size of the portions of your meals. Instead of having three large meals in a day, try have five smaller meals in the day. This way you won’t suffer from excessive hunger but you’ll be able to cut down on the amount of food that you eat. This is a very good tactic as it spreads out the food throughout the day and makes it easier for your body to digest. It is an all-round good idea for your health after such an unhealthy lifestyle for the festival.

Reduce your sugar in take by thinking about the little things where you might have sugar without realising it. Do you drink fizzy drinks? If so, these are packed with sugar and can cause your body to have more of the same issues that you’re trying to deal with. You should certainly keep these to the absolute minimum if you are trying to detoxify. Try drinking water or sugar-free tea instead to stay hydrated and healthy – this is a much better way to get the fluids that you need.
