To Breakfast, or Not To Breakfast?

When it comes to weight loss, skipping breakfast can seem like a logical method, if not entirely beneficial to your weight loss. Not eating breakfast means starting your day without consuming any calories, and you should start as you mean to go on, right?

When you skip breakfast, what you’re actually doing is starting a battle between your brain and your heart to win each other over (which is not as rom-com as it sounds!) Your brain is signalling your body to eat something as you are hungry, but your heart is leading you to remain hungry in an effort to lose weight. This battle inevitably damages your wellbeing, as it leads to high levels of stress. It has the same effect as eating foods that are rich in fat and sugar, which is surely what you were trying to avoid by skipping your breakfast in the first place. This stress leads to stress-eating, which only compounds the problem until you end up with weight gain, rather than weight loss.

In fact, breakfast is something you should never skip. You need breakfast because it gives you the required energy for your body to start working. Without having breakfast, you actually end up storing more fat in your body rather than getting rid of it. Instead, why not consume highly nutritious foods, such as nuts, grains, almonds, cereals, boiled eggs and milk? Eating a healthy diet has a direct impact on your healthy body weight, and will give you the energy you need to last the day without unhealthy snacking. Always remember to consult a health expert who can provide you with solid suggestions and create a customised diet plan for you, but even for your own wellbeing, always start your day right – with breakfast.
