The Cognitive Wonder of Super-Foods On Your Health

As people get older, brain-function decreases, blood cells die and often the first casualty is the memory. Having a poor memory can be frustrating and can often result in embarrassing social situations such as forgetting the birthdays of loved ones and friends, what they do for a living, or even their names! Fortunately, brain-function, including the ability to retain memories more effectively, can be boosted by the use of super-foods, and exist in a variety of forms:

For instance, sunflower seeds are considered to be an essential super-food as they contain high-concentrations of Vitamin E which is thought to stimulate brain-function. They can also help to improve your wellness generally, as a single ounce of dry-roasted seeds will provide you with 30% of your daily Vitamin E needs.

As with many aspects of health and wellbeing – the more green vegetables and leaves that you eat – the better. These can also be a beneficial source of Vitamin E, and a cup of raw spinach will provide you with up to 15% if your daily Vitamin E requirements.

Whilst many diets often emphasise of the importance of consuming large-quantities of fruit and vegetables, some meats can also be classified as super-foods as they contain large quantities of iron. Generally, the leaner the meat, the richer in iron it is, and recent studies have determined a link between iron-deficiency and memory-loss.  Iron-deficiency can also head to physical health disorders such as anaemia, so it is worth including it in your regular diet.

As well as using super-foods, there are a variety of cognitive-exercises and puzzles you can use to improve your memory, which can help to keep your brain agile and be fun to do. So, if you encounter someone who you feel you know, but can’t quite remember who they are – it may be worth-while feeding your brain with super-foods!
