Tis The Season For… Nosebleeds?

Nosebleeds tend to rise in the winter because of the dry environments in our homes, and now there is a way to deal with them to stop the bleeding quickly. A new product has been developed that we can use on ourselves and our children.

What does it do?

Called Nozohaem, the gel is applied directly into our nose to stop bleeding. As the weather turns colder, we turn up the heating which can affect our wellbeing by drying out our homes and workplaces. The lack of moisture in the environment has an impact on our mucous membranes so nasal passages becomes dry and can bleed easily. This can disrupt a night’s sleep, or prove inconvenient if we happen to be at work. One in ten children tends to get nosebleeds regularly, which they might find distressing.

How do we use it?

Nozohaem is a gel that we squeeze into our nostrils the moment we get a nosebleed. Rather than looking for tissues or cotton to put up our noses, we use a special tube that aims to target the source of the bleeding instantly. Once the gel has been inserted we leave it in place for about half an hour. After this time we can choose to move it by blowing our noses gently or we can leave it there where it’ll clear out naturally.

What’s it made from?

The gel is made up of calcium and glycine, which are safe minerals and substances that our bodies can easily breakdown. Even young children can be given the treatment to help stop their nosebleeds. The manufacturer explains that although the product can be used to treat recurring nasal bleeding, even when it is fairly heavy, if bleeds last for more than 30 minutes then we should seek a medical opinion. GPs can give more advice and offer treatments on nosebleeds if we want to find out more information on the topic.
