What Does Vitamin C Do?
We all know that vitamin C is very important to us. It’s also fairly common knowledge that a fantastic source of vitamin C is oranges. These citrus fruits, eaten in any form are absolutely jam packed with the vitamin and a glass of orange juice every morning is a great way of getting more of it into your diet. It’s one thing knowing something is important but it’s quite something else knowing why it’s important.
Vitamin C is important to our dietary balance for a whole host of reasons. It does so very much that we’ve put together this guide to some of the things which vitamin C does for you!
– Mood – Vitamin C is a great mood booster. A deficiency in it can lead to a consistently depressed state of being which is why it’s so important to get enough of it into your diet!
– Structure – Vitamin C helps to form collagen in the body which allows important parts of us to stay in the right shape. Things like capillaries, ligaments and our skin itself require vitamin C to keep the correct shape.
– Immune System – It’s long been known that vitamin C helps to boost your immune system. It was thought to be a good way to prevent the contraction of a cold but this is no longer though to be as effective a solution as it was once thought.
– Cancer-Fighting – By boosting the immune system in the way it does, vitamin C activates certain antibodies which can help to protect you from getting all types of cancer. Being more protected isn’t the same as being immune!
– DNA Damage Protection – Vitamin C is full of antioxidants which not only fight free radicals and help you appear younger for younger, they also destroy unstable oxygen cells. These can cause damage to the DNA which is very bad for us in the long run!
