Warning: Vitamins May Not Be Right For Your Heart Health

Fish Oil And B Vitamins Could Reduce Risk Of Heart DiseaseIf you have had a heart attack and survived, it is likely that you will be hyper aware of protecting your future wellness by making sure you do everything in your power to take care of your wellbeing. One of the ways that people do this is by taking a variety of vitamins, minerals and supplements in order to give their body and immune system the boost that they believe it needs. New research, however, seems to indicate that vitamins and minerals may have very little part to play in heart health, and taking them daily may not reduce your chances of having a heart attack at all.

This research was presented at the American College of Cardiology in conjunction with their 62nd Annual Scientific Session. The general picture was that high dose vitamins and minerals do not reduce your chance of having a recurrent heart attack, however, there was some evidence to suggest that if these vitamins and minerals are taken in conjunction with something called Chelation Therapy, they may actually provide additional benefits.

Chelation treatment on its own does seem to provide a reduction in recurrent heart attacks, when studies are done on it, alongside studies on those who are receiving some kind of placebo therapy instead. The reduction was fairly modest, but there did seem to be a pattern of reduction in cardiac events (including heart attack, coronary revascularisation, angina that requires hospitalisation, stroke and death).

When given in conjunction with high dose oral vitamins and minerals, however, the chelation therapy seemed to be far more effective, although scientists warn that much more work is now needed on these results in order to fully understand why this might be the case.
