How Does Yoga Work as a Weight Loss Tool
Yoga is an ancient practice which has been used for thousands of years as a way to calm the mind, improve flexibility and increase balance. But many people opt to use it as a weight loss tool – included in this group are the Nepalese police force, who have recently begun training with yoga lessons in a bid to slim down. Obesity is a concerning issue in Nepal, with many of its male and female officers too heavy to carry out some of the more intensive duties.
If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, or perhaps your job is desk-bound and you struggle to stay active throughout the day, you may find yoga a great way to improve your fitness. Due to the variety of positions available in yoga, you can target specific areas of your body, such as building better posture or a stronger core to reduce the weight around your stomach area. Regular exercise has long been advised for your wellbeing, but it is also ideal if you’re trying to lose weight as it burns excess fat and tones the muscle groups. Yoga is often considered to be a light exercise which is simply used to improve flexibility, but this is not the only result it offers. Yoga is a surprisingly intense workout, working many of the core muscles and providing you with a great sense of wellbeing and improved fitness.
If you’re trying to lose weight, your exercise regime alone won’t offer you results. You need to improve your diet as well, which means cutting back on fatty and sugary foods, lowering your salt intake, and increasing your fruit and veg consumption. If you aim for three healthy meals each day, with fruit or vegetables as a snack to replace the usual junk food, and drink plenty of water, you will notice that your weight will even out to a healthier size.
