Natural Viagra: How to Last Longer in the Bedroom

The ability to last during sex often plagues men’s sexual health and wellness concerns, but a new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medication seems to suggest that Viagra could help. Based on a review of 14 studies that monitored the effects of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (drugs for erectile dysfunction like Viagra and Levitra) on men who experience premature ejaculation (PE), the researchers found that 11 studies showed the medication to extend the length of the time men could go before reaching orgasm.

So surely that’s the answer then; pop a pill and you can go all night! Not exactly. Although the researchers found a correlation between Viagra use and reduced PE, a majority of the studies did not compare the results against a placebo. This means that it’s hard to determine whether or not the ED medication was actually responsible for the delay in orgasm. However, that is not to say there’s nothing you can do to last longer in bed.

According to Debby Herbenick, PhD, a sex researcher at Indiana University and author of Great in Bed, the stop-start technique can buy you some time before reaching climax, as it allows you to get used to building your arousal to where you’re almost at that point of no return. For the technique, simply start stimulation, and then pause for a brief moment when you feel you’re getting too aroused. Herbenick recommends pausing for five to 10 seconds, until your arousal subsides. Then you should feel free to release after repeating this technique a few times.

If that doesn’t work, you can also try using the squeeze technique, says Herbenick. The second you feel like you’re getting close to climaxing, stop stimulation – as with the stop-start technique – but then squeeze right below the head of your penis. If you focus the pressure on the urethra (which is the tube running along the underside of your penis), this will temporarily represses your ejaculatory response. Again, repeat a few more times before you let yourself reach climax.

However, if you’re looking for something a little less conspicuous, you can also push back your ejaculatory response by wearing a desensitizing condom. Herbenick explains that relying on these rubbers will buy you a few more minutes in the sack, as these products contain the desensitizing lubricant benzocaine. Yet, bear in mind that you need to ensure the condom is not inside out! Otherwise the Benzocaine will end up inside her vagina.
