How Can Your Eating Habits Improve Your Weight Gain?
Skipping meals is never ideal, especially when you want to gain weight. Not only is it bad for your wellbeing, but filling up on calories in one meal and skipping the next causes your muscles to breakdown as if you were hungry. As most people who want to gain weight want to do so in muscle, this isn’t exactly the way you want things to go, and this catabolic breakdown process also leads to weight loss. You also need to maintain your blood sugar at a steady level for other wellness reasons, as otherwise it causes stress to your brain, kidneys, and liver.
So why do personal trainers recommend eating more meals rather than more calories in fewer meals? There is only so much that your body can process at one time, so if you load up on calories in one big meal, your efforts will end up down the toilet – literally! Your body simply passes out the excess nutrients, which is detrimental to your hopes to gaining body mass. Carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamins break down in roughly three to four hours, so to ensure your body is consistently fuelled with nutrients, try eating every three to four hours.
When it comes to what to eat, simple carbohydrates, like sugar, are not your friend. The bulk of your caloric intake should be made up of wholegrain bagels, bread, pasta and rice, and potatoes, because these are complex carbohydrates which will break down in the three to four hour timeframe. Otherwise, you’ll have to feed yourself more often. Complex carbs also have chemical chains which will ensure a steady flow of energy into your bloodstream.
Finally, make sure you include red meat in your diet as this is important for repairing the inevitable muscle tears you get from working out. However, just sticking to one source of protein will make your diet lopsided, so switch between white and red meat, and occasionally throw in some milk if you need to. Obviously, fruits and vegetables must be on your list because otherwise your body will not be able to function efficiently, and your immune system will dip, and both of these things will lead to weight loss, and inability to gain bulk where you want it.
