The Truth About The Low Carbohydrate Diet
Fad diets exist in their thousands. There’s not a type of food which hasn’t been incorporated into one diet or another and to be honest, though they can work they don’t very often. Generally if they do it’s because you’re sacrificing something you shouldn’t be and once you stop dieting you’ll find that the weight jumps back on you like an angry child on a bouncy castle. To lose weight effectively you’re going to need to make genuine lifestyle changes and then stick to them for the long haul, not slipping back into old habits as soon as a target is achieved.
One of the most popular forms of fad dieting is the carb-free diet which involves almost entirely removing carbohydrates from the diet entirely. This does give an initial weight loss but it tends to be water (which we’re full of) and muscle (which weighs much more than fat) which you lose as opposed to fat. Once you stop this diet you’ll find weight comes back very quickly and is much harder to shift. The low carb died plays havoc with your metabolism in a way which can be very hard to repair which makes future weight loss much more difficult.
Carbohydrates are a direct source of energy for the brain and without them you can feel sluggish or fatigued. Many have told me that while they’ve been on low-carb diets like The Atkins Diet, they’ve felt like they’re permanently hung over! If you’re trying to throw some exercise into the mix to really help yourself shift that weight then you’ll find it simply doesn’t work as it should. Without carbohydrates your body won’t burn off fat as easily through exercise, fat burns in the flames of carbohydrates and without them you’ll be stuck. You’ll also find yourself suffering cravings which are both unpleasant and make weight loss far more of a challenge in the long run. Turning something which isn’t that hard into a challenge akin to quitting smoking!
