None of these diets are healthy or safe ways to lose weight – more importantly, they can be life-threatening. Here are some of the most bizarre diets promoted in the media over the years.
The Maker’s diet is based on the concept of certain foods being banned by God. These foods include breaded fish, eel, oysters, ham and pork. There are even vegetables which are included in the list, such as ginger, beetroot and onion! The diet causes a serious protein and omega-3 deficiency, as well as lowering the body’s blood pressure and weaknesses. Raspberry ketones are well known as being metabolism boosters, but relying on the supplements as a fat burning tool is dangerous. Raspberry supplements can cause increased blood pressure and rapid heartbeats, in addition to jitteriness. Likewise, the replacement diet also causes medical problems such as nutrient deficiencies. This diet promotes the idea of eating just one type of food, which replaces all other food groups.
The Dukan diet is a popular choice with brides-to-be, as it works on the basis of eating high protein foods but allows carbohydrates.
